This exhibition presented at one of Lisbon’s municipal galleries showcases some of Fundación ARCO’s collection, which, since its beginning, assumed a pedagogical character, inviting specialists to select works and thus guaranteeing independence and an outside perspective based precisely on professionally established and justifiable criteria.

With artworks ranging from 1968 to 2018, fifty years of significant transformations in art are being presented, to be considered from a questioning perspective. Curator Miguel von Hafe Pérez says:

“Because if there is one thing that these fifty years have shown, is the crystal clear evidence that art is most relevant through the questions it raises than the answers it provides. It is from this perspective that we all become art lovers, specialists or occasional spectators, and citizens that are better prepared for a wide and critical perception of all that is around us”.

The collaboration between Portugal and IFEMA, the institution responsible for organizing the ARCO Contemporary Art Fair and for the associated Foundation, stems from their interest in Portuguese artists and their work, which is evident in how many of them are a part of the collection.
