An exhibition on innovations and transformations in painting including works from the collection “La Caixa”. It explores this technique as a mental process, an abstract idea that expands from the canvas to other media such as photography, sculpture, engraving or installation. It is the idea of the pictorial, which incorporates a changed understanding of painting, that is reflected between the intellectual concept and the sensuality of the material.
Painting: a permanent challenge brings together works by artists who renewed painting in the 1960s and 1970s, together with those of a younger generation who have expanded the limits of this discipline, reinventing new forms of production and presentation.
Bunga's interest towards plastic arts starts with painting while being a student at the faculty of Fine Arts. "Paint is directly or indirectly present in all my works. It's my thoughts' basis, a multifaceted place, filled with layers, perspectives and smells”, he says. Since the beginning, he works painting in its expanded version, which allows him to create polychromatic and wrapping environments where paint is experimented with the body.
For this exhibition, he presents several of his works that he calls “surfaces” – paintings that are treated in a way that creates cracks and texture and tend to be presented hanging from the ceiling.
