Culturgest Porto. Culturgest – Fundação Caixa Geral de Depósitos +info
This was Bunga’s second solo exhibition, showcasing several of his works at Culturgest Porto – one of the spaces by foundation Culturgest – Fundação Caixa Geral de Depósitos.
He presented a site-specific installation, where the references to precarious and transitory urban architecture are combined with echoes of modernist and constructivist painting. Intrinsic to these installations are notions of fragility, devir and contingency, developed through materiality. His construction dialogues with the already existing architecture: the building, by the architect Porfírio Pardal Monteiro, is a cruciform space ornamented with art deco elements.
Aside from that work, he showed a set of models also made with pressed cardboard and three videos.
Culturgest has described the Bunga’s process for the site-specific:
“The artist begins the construction process, with sheets of pressed cardboard and adhesive tape, of volumes of immediate architectural connotation. In the next phase, he uniforms the exterior surfaces by painting them white and paints the interiors in various colors to create a composition of monochrome planes. On various occasions, the process was concluded with the demolition of two volumes, only the surfaces of pressed cardboard remaining on the cardboard and thus standing on the walls of the space. These installations suggest, in a first approximation, the surfaces that serve as a printed memory of demolished buildings.”
